Carnatic Music Vocalist, Dancer
Suraksha is an 11th grader at Brookfield East High School, Wisconsin. Suraksha learns Carnatic singing under Guru Smt. Srividya Yagnaraman since the age of 9. Suraksha feels fortunate to be learning from her Guru and aspires to continue to learn more in years to come. Suraksha also learns Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Guru Kripa Baskaran and recently completed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram. In addition to singing and dance, Suraksha plays violin in the Senior Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra at MYSO.
Apart from the fine arts, Suraksha is actively involved in several school clubs, where she has volunteered, led several community projects, and displayed leadership. She held the role of NJHS president in 8th grade, leading many community projects within the Greater Milwaukee area. She is the current secretary of Key Club, Red Cross, and WICA Youth Wing- where she strives to help others in the local community and globally. Suraksha has also been an active member of her student council for the past 5 years, making contributions towards her school. Along with leadership, Suraksha enjoys public speaking. She has placed first in many meets including state in Middle School forensics. In High School, she is a medalist and nationals alternate for forensics, holding the position of forensics Captain, and she is a state qualifier in Varsity debate. She is also actively engaged in several STEM research organizations, and holds the role SMART Team Captain.
Guru, Shivaranjani School of Music
Srividya Yagnaraman is a Carnatic Music vocalist from the Brookfield, WI area. Having started her learning at the age of 7, she learnt in the Mysore bani from Sri Satya and Smt. Rathna Shivashankar in Bangalore. She is now taking advanced lessons from Smt. Lalgudi Rajalakshmi, a highly respected violin and vocal musician and guru and Kalaimamani Smt. Vidya Subramanian, a student of Late Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman.
She is a Software Professional with Benefitfocus, Inc. Outside of her professional life, she is passionate about teaching and creating platforms for children to learn and perform Carnatic Music. She is one of the founding members of the Milwaukee Tyagaraja Aradhana committee founded in 2006 and has been working diligently to generate and motivate Carnatic Music interest in children and music enthusiasts. She also regularly provides vocal support for Bharatanatyam arangetrams and Salangai Poojais.
Carnatic Violin Player
Avaneesh Muralidharan is a Sophomore at Brookfield Central High School. Avaneesh started learning Carnatic Music from the age of 7. He started his music journey with Carnatic Keyboard from Guru Sri Nellai Vinayagamoorthy, and then transitioning to Carnatic Violin. He has been learning Carnatic Violin from Guru Sri Swaminathan Nadarajan for the last 5 years. Avaneesh has performed at various events in Milwaukee, Chicago both as a solo and accompanying artist. He also learns Mridangam from Guru Sri. Ganesh Kumar and regularly plays at several local events along with the local percussion group, ManOdharma. Avaneesh also learns Western Violin, and is a principal violinist at MYSO’s (Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra) Philharmonia Orchestra.
Apart from Music, Avaneesh is actively involved in Robotics and also plays leadership roles in Brookfield Central High School HOSA and Science Clubs. He is an active Volunteer with SEWA USA Milwaukee Chapter and recipient of the Presidential Gold Volunteer Service Award for 2 consecutive years
Carnatic Mridangam Player
Advaith Rameswamy is an 8th Grader at Wisconsin Hills Middle School, Brookfield. He has been learning the Carnatic Mridangam from Sri. Kolkata R. Srinivasan for the last 5 years and Carnatic Vocal singing from Smt. Srividya Yagnaraman for several years now. He has been providing mridangam accompaniment to several artists and students of Shivaranjani School of Music in Poorva Peetika concerts and other special programs in the Milwaukee and Chicago area. He also participates in the Milwaukee Tyagaraja Aradhana, Cleveland Tyagaraja Aradhana celebrations both in the vocal and percussion ensembles and is part of the Milwaukee area percussion group – ManOdharma.
In addition to this, he plays the western violin and has played leading parts in his School Orchestra and MYSO. He is also a Tennis enthusisast who regularly competes in USTA tournaments and actively competes in Robotics. In his free time, he enjoys sketching and developing culinary recipes with his family.
Carnatic Flutist
Arjun Rameswamy is an 8th Grader at Wisconsin Hills Middle School, Brookfield. He has been learning the Carnatic flute from Sri. Kalpathi Vidyaraman for the last 5 years and Carnatic Music from Smt. Srividya Yagnaraman for several years now. He has been accompanying several students in Shivaranjani School of Music’s Poorva Peetika concerts and other special programs and solo performances in the Milwaukee and Chicago area. He also participates in the Milwaukee Tyagaraja Aradhana, Cleveland Tyagaraja Aradhana celebrations both in the vocal and flute ensembles.
In addition to that, he plays the western violin and has been playing leading parts in his School Orchestra and MYSO and various gigs in the local music arenas such as the ‘Improv Club’ and ‘Conservatory of Music’. He is also a Tennis enthusisast who regularly competes in USTA tournaments and plays leadership roles in the school Mock Trial club and Math clubs. In his free time, he enjoys reading and developing culinary recipes with his family.
